Can't connect to Twitter from links today. It says "Some privacy related extensions may cause issues on x.com. Please disable them and try again.". But when I connect directly to home page, it works.

What does it mean?

My GMail being accessed by some Google script?     (technology)

A few days ago my GMail started showing that it's being constantly accessed by some Google script. Am I being hacked, or is this legitimate? Never happened before. Anybody else have their GMail account allowing access to this Google script? Gmail says the access is legitimate.

Anyway, I have 2FA, so I don't think hackers can login.

Utility scale electrical battery storage capacity has increased massively more than exponentially over the past 5 years making in most areas renewable energy with battery storage the cheapest form of energy without subsidy.. repeat... without subsidy. The game is changed. Be aware.     (youtu.be)

Of course obviously this film of pyramid construction is fake but every time it comes up it just reminds me of how remarkable AI has become and the need for labeling of AI film      (cdn.videy.co)

Of Course obviously this is fake but every time it comes up it just reminds me of how remarkable AI has become. Frankly that footage looks like a black and white film filmed in the 1920s and would be difficult to distinguish from one with exception of the physics of lifting the rocks obviously thing wrong as they seem almost weightless. But otherwise the detail is immaculate and the coloration and black and white nature of the whole thing is just spot on. It just goes to show again that we really must have some required labeling of AI produced film. We we just got to make it a law with large penalties if it's not labeled because the potential for deception is terrible. I mean it's bad enough the deception that can happen with editing in live interviews and other things but now that film can be completely created from nothing showing people doing things they never actually did it's far worse with far more lasting mental impact on those who view it than even reading rewritten history or censored history or other things.

https://sora.com/

They're doing this whole 12 days of Christmas thing

Day 1 - O1 reasoning model released (faster better than preview)
Day 2 - enhanced fine tuning
Day 3 (today) - Sora

Sora is currently unavailable (presumably because so many white men are trying to use it) BUT if you want to get your AI video genreated fix I highly recommend taking a look at https://civitai.com/videos it's basically open source sora. It'a cool as fuck. I could, and often do, scroll though it for hours.

Big loss for ISPs as Supreme Court won’t hear challenge to $15 broadband law     (arstechnica.com)

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/12/big-loss-for-isps-as-supreme-court-wont-hear-challenge-to-15-broadband-law/

The Supreme Court yesterday rejected the broadband industry's challenge to a New York law that requires Internet >providers to offer $15- or $20-per-month service to people with low incomes.

In August, six trade groups representing the cable, telecom, mobile, and satellite industries filed a petition >asking the Supreme Court to overturn an appeals court ruling that upheld the state law. But the Supreme Court won't >take up the case. The high court denied the telecom groups' petition without comment in a list of orders released >yesterday.

ISPs fear more states will regulate prices as New York law survives challenge.

I wonder why there are no standard touch controls for headphones     (technology)

I've tried already 5 different headphones. Only Sony and Sennheiser have logic, intuitive full touch controls. The rest have just some random touch controls that are not logic, nor intuitive.

The only way to do normal touch controls are:

Double tap - play and stop.

Up and down - volume.

Back and forward - track back and track forward.

The rest just make some touch controls and use physical buttons for the rest, like twenty years ago. It's really annoying.

Crypto regulation in Yuropistan     (technology)

Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), in short is a whole slew of permits (€€€) and regulations which makes is nearly impossible to purchase anything with bitcoin (or crypto in general).
Organisations facilitation crypto services need to collect all kinds of information of users and transaction streams ((against terrorism)) of course.

The regulation sees to 'governance, capital regulation en administration'. So shops don't necessary need to comply, but any company facilitating that will, killing crypto as payment for common people (as I see it).

Russia aims for 11.2 nm EUV using Xenon lasers, instead of ASML's approach of zapping tin droplets     (www-cnews-ru.translate.goog)

https://www-cnews-ru.translate.goog/news/top/2024-12-13_v_rossii_razrabotali_dorozhnuyu?_x_tr_sl=ru&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp

After watching a YouTube video with only one fact (11.2 nanometers) I searched the web and worked my way back along the chain of Chinese Whispers to reach a Russian source. Using Google translate, this does seem to be genuinely interesting, albeit on a ten year time scale.

In the short term Russia might be managing home grown photo lithography at 350 nm next year, and the article says "The new laser will "pump up" it to 130 nm." Does that mean frequency doubling to get 130 nm light from 260 nm light? Or frequency tripling to get 130 nm light from 390 nm light? I'm still reading journalism, even if it is Russian :-(
