$2 per megabyte: AT&T mistakenly charged customer $6,223 for 3.1GB of data     (arstechnica.com)

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/12/2-per-megabyte-att-mistakenly-charged-customer-6223-for-3-1gb-of-data/

An AT&T customer who switched to the company's FirstNet service for first responders got quite the shock when his >bill came in at $6,223.60, instead of the roughly $260 that his four-line plan previously cost each month.

The Texas man described his experience in a now-deleted Reddit post three days ago, saying he hadn't been able to >get the obviously incorrect bill reversed despite calling AT&T and going to an AT&T store in Dallas. The case drew >plenty of attention and the bill was finally wiped out several days after the customer contacted the AT&T president's office.

The customer said he received the billing email on December 11. An automatic payment was scheduled for December 15, >but he canceled the autopay before the money was charged. The whole mess took a week to straighten out.

comcast is the proverbial devil but i refuse to switch to att even if the prices are lower and they have true fiber.

i have had nothing but bad experiences with ATT in the past

My new Technics EAH-A800E-K look amazing     (technology)

Today I've got brand new Technics EAH-A800E-K and I feel happy. For discount $200 price they are amazing, the same as Sony or Bose quality that cost more.

Bluetooth 5.2 is amazing. It's lightning fast. They work even outside my house. Never happened with lower versions.

Sound is perfect. Not many preset choices, but all I need is the Dynamic preset with clear sound and balanced bass.

Wearing comfort is perfect. They are very light and fit perfectly my head and my ears (I've got a standard head).

Both ANC and Ambient modes work good.

Power button is beyond standard. It even says the charge level automatically when the headphones are switched off.

The design is perfect. It's between light high-tech and classic. Very balanced design that is not exaggerated or annoying.

The only not perfect part is the control buttons. They are too small and fragile. The only part that feels cheap.

P.S. Please, if you know some problems I should be aware, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.

This page shows the current stage of data-grabbing and mechanics of how you are being profiled/influenced/herded like cattle.

There is some veneer of plebbit, but it's not bad overall.

New free always on AI assistant assembled from free downloadable AI components.     (youtu.be)

We are really getting close to the Star Trek computer that's always on that listens that answers whatever question you want or does whatever you want. And these things are turning out to be free and they're turning out to be small enough in size that you can run them on your own personal laptop and some of them are small enough that you can even run on your smartphone.

Again these run locally on your own computer so you don't need to be connected to the internet and what you say is not being fed back to some big monstrosity computer in the sky to haunt you later.

Right now archive has a queue of more than 6000 users archiving. Usually the queue doesn't exceed past 100 - 200 users.

My only guess it's highly likely about Gaza truce, or TikTok ban and people switching to another Chinese social RedNote instead of American.

What do you think?

Sucky Microsoft just happened to release a really great small AI model that's free.     (youtu.be)

If you're not keeping up with these AI models they're all different AI brains that you can download off and on to even your smartphone and carry around with you and I'll do all kinds of different tasks and they get better and better. This one's very good at reasoning and math which is been especially difficult for some AI models to make get right. And this one is very small. When they say parameters consider it like neurons or something so if they say it's got 14 billion parameters then you can sort of consider it to have like 14 billion neurons. And the thing about this one is it does reasoning a lot better than a lot of the models that have 120 or 200 billion neurons.

Need help with installing indie OS     (technology)
submitted by Conspirologist to technology 3 months ago (+2/-1)
3 comments last comment...
I have a powerful computer with Windows 10. Pieces of shit Microsoft are ending support this year.

I want to install an inidie OS that is supported to keep using my computer.

I know there are Linux and other indie OS.

Can anybody explain what can I do?

I know there is an OS with high security for using internet, that deletes all new files after browsing, so it's 100% malware free, but don't remember the name.

Is there a Linux version with the same security for internet browsing?

Is there a Linux version that is easy to use like Windows for non technical users?

I also need to know how to inistall a second OS on my computer. And if I can install more OS than just another one.

My computer has 2 discs. C is 250 GB, D is 1TB. If this matters. Or can I install the second OS on the same disc?

Enlighten me about everything I need to know. I don't even know what else to ask.

I know Tails OS and Qubes OS are the most easy to use for non computer nerd.

Are there more easy to use anti-malware secure OS?

Need advice for new electric kettle     (technology)
submitted by Conspirologist to technology 3 months ago (+1/-1)
3 comments last comment...
I've bought a new electric kettle. Severin WK 3472. It's supposed to be a quality brand made in Germany.

This mini kettle is very small. Only 0,5 Liters.

It has two weird issues. Smell of rubber from the glass tank. Steam on the glass tank after boiling even with the lid open that stays forever.

All my previous electric kettle never had this issues. No smell at all, and no steam at all right after boiling water, even with the lid closed.

Anybody else who has a kettle this small, can confirm if this is normal, or if my kettle is defective?

The Chinese legally impotrted male USB cable connector has a defective size, so it made become loose the female USB connector. Now other normal USB male connectors lose grip and fall outside. Fuck fucking China. Only China does this junk. Do not buy Chinese junk, even legally imported.

Can I sue these POS chinks?
