Anyone have a good recommendation for an 8 port gigabit router WITHOUT WiFi built in? The only ones on Amazon are TP-Link. Wonder if the government is tired of not being able to use WiFi to watch me take a shit.

I don't see a problem with it.

People can easily order Un-Gooked replacement hardware online and replace it.

i'm leasing a comcast router, i know i'm getting raped here but if the router breaks or a better version comes along i can swap it without much effort.

besides, i had bad luck at owning routers since the DSL DAYS. i tried every single single brand and it would break on me at the third to 6 month period. must have been the shitty att network in which i had

Go ahead and ad up how much you have spent "renting" that DSL router from ATT & Comcast over the years.... and then compare it to the cost of owning your own hardware.

It is eye opening.

Today is a DSL day. You're receiving this communication over a DSL line. AT&T is trying to end DSL, so might have to switch to one of the awful cable companies in the near future.

I've had about 25 years with the local ISP I can walk to in 8 minutes. Higher cable speeds are not preferable to real human interactions.

Only ever had one TP-Link piece of hardware... A wireless card I put in an older machine to do some home automation stuff. It was never reliable and would drop connection all the time. Nothing I tried doing seemed to fix it until one day I decided to get to the bottom of it and fired up wireshark and pulled a PCAP of everything it was doing... and what I found was that it seemed to violate the 802.1 spec is some very serious ways. The card went in the trash and I ordered a new card for twice the price from a reputable manufacturer.

aren't these the routers you can flash and install openware firmware on?

OpenWRT can be used on MANY different brands and models. The list has become huge over the years.
