Multiple shots, angles, and speeds of Starship's launch on its third test flight (headphone warning)     (youtu.be)

Taken from multiple vantage points, some wide angle, some telescope, a few showing hot stage separation, some slow motion, a few with people in the foreground. Can be loud at times.

This thing has a BMI over 100. How does one slip so far? I think I might know how a decent Roman citizen must have felt near the end of their empire.

Yet another Forged in Fire Fat Flailing and Feeling Faint     (files.catbox.moe)

submitted by dominus_stercae to FatPeopleHate 1.5 years ago

With his fat gut and pig tails (I kid you not) he overheated and had to sit outside for a while. Turned in crap for the first round, but was saved only by another competitor violating parameters. He was ejected on the second round. "Forged in Fire" has a history of shaking out the obese.

The image below shows breakfast. The beast was beyond rude to the poor people who tried to help it.

One of the more photogenic launches - CSG-2 on Falcon 9. Left is staging with booster turning for boostback. Right is at the moment of landing in Florida.     (files.catbox.moe)

The beauty here is visible to the naked eye near Cape Canaveral. Staging is clear with a good pair of binoculars.

None of my votes seem to "take." The number remains unchanged despite the arrows changing color. Is this a known problem, or am I missing some step or procedure?

Dramatic sideslip. Astra Rocket 3's valiant but ultimately futile attempt at recovering from motor anomaly on liftoff.     (youtu.be)

submitted by dominus_stercae to spaceflight 2.7 years ago

One of five motors malfunctioned at liftoff, leaving the vehicle short of the net thrust needed to reach the correct altitude. The vehicle is still a prototype, but this is the fifth failure thus far.

Index to 1:33:31 if it doesn't do so automatically.

Crossed the US definition for the boundary to space, but not the FAI's Karman Line. Still, passengers experienced around 3 minutes of zero G.

In Blue Origin's case, they cross the Karman line (100 km). Virgin cross 50 miles, which is the US standard threshold space, but not the Karman line. Regardless, both are suborbital hoppers.

Probably feeling the pressure from Blue Origin's New Shepard. Both of course pale next to SpaceX's progress.

If such a demand continues it might soon be cost effective to do ride shares for lunar missions.

Rocket Lab Electron 2nd Stage Failed - Loss of Payload     (twitter.com)

submitted by dominus_stercae to spaceflight 3.0 years ago

From the live stream, it appears that the 2nd stage motor started, then stopped a couple of seconds later. If so, I'm guessing a sudden loss of power to the electric propellant pumps.

ETA: Appears to have spun hard shortly after staging.

Nova in Cassiopeia Brightens Suddenly     (skyandtelescope.org)

Cassiopeia s a Northern constellation easy to recognize. Although not very bright for the naked eye at mag 5.7, the nova should be possible to spot in reasonably dark skies.

There was a methane leak at the base after landing, but there were no catastrophes. Clearly the flip maneuver works.
