1990 version was an amazing movie, if you look past some of the campy scenes (three breasted woman, and strained CGI). The plot was kind of a mind-fuck after finishing the movie. I don't know which one was closer to the intent of the Philip K. Dick short story.
I wasn't a huge fan of the 2012, although I was expecting a much-enhnaced remake of the original.
I have seen GSDs that get ornery in old age and can 'turn' on their masters, but pits are in their own category. Once that switch is flipped, there is almost nothing that can be done to open their jaws.
