Interesting how his art continued to get more and more abstract. Having schizophrenia must be at least somewhat similar to being on a permanent acid trip.

Seems Piccaso had an opium habit.

I really hope dude didn't do a month bender with all of these back to back...no wonder he's damaged.

Yeah, but the article said his brain damage "wasn't irreparable". Not sure what that's supposed to mean, or if it even really qualifies for brain damage. Sounds just like he had to take some time to dry out from huffing all that gas and glue and other assorted chems.

There was a SSRI in there as well...it's going to take some time for him to fully wash out.

Dude kinda reminded me of famed Sci Fi author Phillip K. Dick, who would load up on acid and then write some amazing, mindbending stuff. His work really took off after his death, and many movies were made that were inspired by his books, such as Bladerunner, Total Recall, Minority Report, etc.

After reading the article, the only things that stood out to me as "dangerous" he was taking was sniffing glue and huffing gas. That stuff will indeed fry your brain.

In 1939, a psychiatrist, Walter Maclay, found some paintings by Wain in a shop in Campden Hill and put them in a sequence that, he claimed, showed evidence of a deterioration in the artist's mental state due to schizophrenia, even though the paintings were not dated. Maclay's theory has been challenged as Wain was still producing paintings in his old style, as well as more abstract "kaleidoscopic" designs, while at Napsbury

The artist had brain damage from an accident on a bus. But family was really weird.
