I've read a little about it recently. They really believed in their religion back then. Cromwell was physically brave because he thought he was going to Heaven if he died. Charles faced his execution bravely because he believed he had behaved correctly and was (be)heading towards the next life.

Im basically on Cromwells side inside of england. But he turns into a shitty colonizer the second he steps onto Irish soil. Im sympathetic to the “plain” religious movements of that era.

Growing up I used to HATE it. Now it's the only thing I read for 'pleasure'.

I know it's gay but everything pertaining to the present just bums me out.

I now realize the version of history I was taught in school was full of lies. Ive learned enough at this point in my life to have strong opinions about most events in history, though I know I have a lot more to learn.

Its been awhile since I read Name of the Rose. A few decades. I vividly remember crying my eyes out while reading the closing paragraphs of that book. What a great historical novel!

Used to watch and read tons of history, specifically WW2. Then it turns out nearly everything I learned was a lie. Same with space.

That seems like it isn't necessarily the case, although it could be in pathfinding exercises where your destination is relative to origin, as in cases of buried treasure where you have to walk a certain number of steps in various directions.

What I dislike about it is the inference of no agency. As in, your self in the current moment can't have identifiable desires or preferences without consulting one's memory of times past.

Knowing what I know about Africa has been useful in modern society. It helps wake up the whites to know what really went on.
