When I was in high school, the kid who sat in front of me in math class died during winter break. The car flipped over off the highway and he was ejected from the passenger window and crushed by the vehicle.

When the school counselors showed up to explain, many of the girls were crying. My dumb ass had the thought: “Oh man, what if I started laughing right now?” I had this massive grin on my face trying to hold back from laughing. Then I look over at my buddy across the room who starts grinning too knowing exactly how fucking awful it would be if we started laughing. We both sunk our heads down into our arms as if to cry.
