When I do a project, I don't want the first few days to involve treating cardboard and laminating it just to fabricate something that will always be worse than if I'd just used the right material.

This is such a stupid load of shit. Sure you can jump through hoops to make a product perform beyond it's intended purpose but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. This is more like a arts and crafts project than actually building something of value. You might as well take up macrame.

There are literally tons of free wood also available for the taking in any town, just requires a bit more searching. Always keep eyes open for remodels and whatnot, got a bunch of Oak trim from one while back.
