Should I collect pennies?

Brilliant plan to get rid of pennies (sarcasm). So everything will round up and now we will need to increase production of nickels, which has an even worst production cost-to-value than pennies.

I keep pennies 1982 and older and the other coins older than 1959 for the metal value.

Pennies are mostly zinc now but people forget that the price of zinc is going up as well so even though you're not storing copper which was the really good hack 10 years ago you're storing zinc which I think even now you're getting more zinc than a Penny's worth in each penny plus it does have copper cladding.

Pennies are not 100% copper, they are not even mostly copper these days, but collect them for your grandkids. Someday they may be worth something.

Thinking the copper ones. You’ll be tasked with storing them and eventually dying and leaving them to whichever family member wants to carry on your hobby.

Sure, it’s easy to throw old shit away. But when people are willing to take care of their collections, that’s how you eventually get vintage items. Then antiques. Then eventually artifacts.

VHS tapes are getting thrown away in mass and now we are seeing a steady rise in collectors. Shame magnetic tape degrades over time.

Anyway, if it gives you a surge of dopamine to collect Pennie’s: Do it. So long as it does not become a hindrence.

Magnetic tape holds up for a century. I literally have old audio tapes from the 1930s. Just as good audio as always good boy
