Us vs canadian dollar

submitted by Saintdindufromthelandofnuffins to Canada 2 daysJun 11, 2025 09:09:32 ago (+3/-1)     (Canada)

1.37. You need like 9 bucks canadian to spend 6 in america

When i was becoming aware of the world you needed 7 dollars to spend 6 in canada. Looking at the graph, that was a very brief moment!

But since it was my first look around at the world i thought that was representative of canada and of the usa. That they were just better.

I have come to not care much, but it sure did matter to me back then, when i was totally mistaken

The period of time when the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US dollar was a result of the decision to artificially inflate the value of CAD by doing something like squandering gold held in reserve. It was purely a political decision and did not reflect the reality of Canada's status relative to the US.

Full disclosure it's been years since I learned about this and my recollection of the details is very hazy. I welcome anyone to explain it properly.

Wait till you stop for gas in Canada.
Sold in Liters, wtf.
and cigarettes are like $20/pack with grotesque (picture) warning labels (and all of them are menthol)
