The reason for secessionist talk from some circles is there is some unspoken understanding, maybe back-of-the-mind as it were, that with balkanization, a lot of the existing policies fail outright because the dollar won't be able to back them.
A post-soviet style collapse of the u.s. makes political defeat-in-detail much more viable, allowing for the creation of regional political and economic strongholds that act as beachheads for consolidation under a new ideological faction focused on indoctrination and the manufacture of political and economic zealots that are much harder to demoralize or subvert going forward.
