Rate this 5 year plan

I write code. I am working on a game. I hate my job. I am relatively young.

What if I take 30-40k and quit in 1 year after bonuses. Go to the Balkans. Focus on my body, health, and my game. Maybe do contract code work.

After 6 months in Balkans, try Southeast Asia. Live there a year or two. Release my game, see how it does. Live on the proceeds or contract work.

Sounds not too bad, eh?

You can't get your game done within a month and release it and see how it does this will never work. Release the beginning of your game in a preliminary mode and add features later. People are going to like the basic gist of it or they're not.

I suggestion to any kid these days who doesn't have a wife doesn't have kids doesn't have a girlfriend nagging them to have a nice home is to do the van life. You'll be able to save an extra $2,000 every month with whatever salary you're making. And save that money up and start investing it. If you start investing that it's quickly going to make you more money every month than whatever pie in the sky scheme that you have about your personal game or whatever else that you hope will be a hit.

The sure thing to do is to save the money and invest it in stocks or gold or anything that has a negative correlation to the United States dollar which will continue to collapse.

It's a wargame. Has lots of neat ideas. Multiplayer. Could sell to the chinese. Even a tiny success there is lots of money

Sounds like a plan for failure! Games are disposable! Unless you have the resources of Microsoft or one of the other large game development companies, you will get your ass handed to you! You don't have the bandwidth to handle the development, promotion, sales, and support/troubleshooting to bring a game to market! Not what you wanted to hear, but, pragmatically, what you need to hear!

I imagine that planning to move someplace without at least visiting first would be a fools errand.

Good, awesome! Many I talk to about this haven't even seen the countries they romanticize.

I've only spent time in SEAsia while enlisted in the chair force, so I can't give good judgement there, I did love my time there though! I can tell you what I learned about those places, but Phillipino Pea covers what I know so much better.

I spent 3 months in Bucharest as a civilian, 2 months in the black forest region in Germany. Nice places, beauty all around. That's the closest I've been to where you mentioned.

I'd say you have a better chance financially in SEAsia, but I haven't been in over seven or eight years now (Holy fuck I didn't realize how old I am).
