Some people think the shitposting and reputation assassination make the site "too far gone." Other people would think a site full of porn would make it "too far gone."

Ideally, if people were really opposed to the behaviors of someone like Dangus, I would expect people to use the same tactics against him. You could get the site together and collectively make him feel so unwelcome and so overburdened with negativity (and no upshot) that he would exclude himself willingly.

Now, why don't people do that? One answer is that people don't care enough. The other answer is that they lack the courage or the ambition. Another answer still is that they don't really want Dangus gone, or just don't want to get on his bad side for whatever reason (maybe they doubt "the cause").

All of these reasons are, to me, reasons why getting rid of Dangus does not have the value you guys think it does. Why? Because the people here aren't worth it, by your lights. I mean as a whole (there might be a small group of users you care about). So, you could get those users together and just start a group email or chat somewhere else. But if that's not good enough, then this reveals it has more to do with your desire to assert your own values on a group of other people than it does with site quality. You want your vision carried out.

And that goes for each and every person who complains about the site without doing anything independently to solve their own problem (up to and including making your own site).

I don't have problems with Dangus because I don't give him reasons to have a problem with me. When he and I have had goes in the past, I just don't give him what he wants. Nobody here would even have a problem with him if they weren't trying/vying to overcome him, to be something/somebody here, to be accepted by a certain group of people, basically: to be important enough at some shit site that they didn't get picked on.

This site (no site) will ever STAND IN as a one-stop shop for everything we want it to be: information dense, timely, free speech, a forum for solid conversation, and a community without problems. When you get heavy-handed about handling the problems, you'll start to sacrifice one thing or the other.

If you consider this place a cess pit, then isolate your use according to the primary value you derive from the site. E.g., timely information. Then, gather the people you like and take your conversations elsewhere to avoid the nonsense.
