No systemd and software that's actually up to date. Doesn't ship python 2 as the default and node 22 instead of node 12. Ships with a DE of choice that's reasonable instead of latent momentum from the Vista days of trying to be different.

I used to think Ubuntu was at least good for server but I just ditched it for that too. The software is so out of date and it runs so deep that to run even new server software you have to do the whole Linux From Scratch thing recompiling a shit ton of everything manually one dep at a time to get caught up to the current era.

Of course some package is going to demand something stays old and then there is no way forward. "But that's what docker is for." Yeah, docker exists in part because Ubuntu shit and somehow popular so if anyone wants to use modern software they need things like docker.

Or your OS can just have the newest shit all the time. "But don't things break if you do that?" No. Never. Nothing ever breaks. Keeping software a month or two behind to avoid breakage is unnecessary. People test their software these days. And keeping it a month or two behind becomes 10 years. Python 3 is 17 years old now and Ubuntu is still not shipping it as default python. The python 2 vs 3 shit becomes so easy when python 2 is never on the system ever, like it damn shouldn't be. Python 2 has no reason to exist anywhere much less be a default on the most popular linux.

Just say no to this bullshit. Uninstall your ubuntu today. Every software becomes better. tmux, htop, qbittorrent. They are all better. Believe it or not developers add features to things.
