Russian strategy appears to be something like "give us your best shot and we'll outlast and eventually defeat you". They do have NATO twisting in the wind, and the EU committing sudoku.

Exactly - these guys are all in for a game of last man standing (whether they ultimately win or not). They also might always get off to a slow start - but they're much like a slow moving, grinding avalanche once they finally momentum.
