The State of the Nation: last nite's gig field report

submitted by Anus_Expander to whatever 5 hoursMay 25, 2025 08:26:59 ago (+10/-0)     (whatever)

One of the bands I play in was at a FL beach dive bar last nite. 4 hour gig. It was PACKED with booze-swilling college gals, most wearing skirts. Lots of dancing. Most people can't dance for shit, but they were having fun. All White folks, except towards midnight a nigger entered with his mudshark, and the crowd parted as if an ambulance were coming thru. Thankfully, they left a few minutes later.

Sadly, half of the yunger gals were staring at dey fones most of the time. The guys didn't even make an effort to talk to them. Most gals were legit gorgeous and not fat. Everyone was well behaved, no fights or screaming, except for one fat Tennessee harridan that LOVED the band. We musicians all stayed sober, and drove home $300 richer. I didn't see one cop all night, in a White area they ain't needed.

BONUS: as we were packing up, a gorgeous drunk gal demanded to sing a song with the band. My efforts to convince her we were going home were ignored, and she demanded to 'speak to the person in charge'. I fobbed her off onto the singer, who laffed in her face. As I was walkin to my van, I saw the hapless gal puking into a golf cart. INTO, not onto. I wished her well, drove home, showered, and ate a huge plate of Hamburger Helper.

I hope you weren’t playing at my favorite local beach dive bar last night. The band was fucking awful. A bunch of middle age white guys that thought they were rock stars- but were just pompous assholes. These stupid ass drunk tourists from up north - from places where Applebees is both the only bar in town and the finest dining around- were oblivious to the fact the band did an entire set with songs all in the same key and time. For example sweet home Alabama and Warewolves of London should not be played in their entirety in the same set (unless you are kid rock and mashing them together)..And to top it off these asshats were playing in an open air tiki bar with waaaayyy too much equipment for the gig. Everyone had a half stack- a sub and 2 QSC mains each side, plus full compliment of monitors- for people that were standing 5 feet in front of them. Absolutely overkill to the point it’s obnoxious. and they had it cranked up somfucking loud you couldn’t hear the person next to you at all- good luck ordering a drink.
These guys were throwing their picks out into the crowd after songs like people gave a shit. Running around with their wireless rigs going up,to young ladies and trying to hump them with their guitars while murdering a VH solo… As a fellow musician, it was cringeworthy.- after working a bunch of smaller festivals this last season that had actual professional musicians, I can’t take posers seriously. They irritate me.

We did play Sweet Home, but not the Werewolves ending, altho I have in other bands. FACT: people LIKE it. This area (NW FL) is known as South Alabama.

If I had to, I'd pay to not be involved in anything like that.

Would you want to risk approaching a potential psycho?

Oh, I get it, but it's sad to see. I remember gigging in the 80s and 90s, people TALKED to each other. They paid attention to the band, not a black mirror.
