The problem is that the record also shows repeated instances of an event at the half-way point around 350 years. These are the only times these sediment layer show up. The 700-year pattern is reliable but no one has figured out any pattern for when it happens at the middle of the cycle. The problem is that we are right now around one of those 350 year periods.
