It is special. Massachusetts was ground zero of the American Revolution, which the Freedom Trail highlights, and as K-Mac noted dissenter Protestantism was the dominant cultural wellspring of the US all the way into the 1950s. This can be summed up in one word: Puritanism.

Grew up in MA. In the exact area that the revolution kicked off. Went to the lexington green to hear Stuart Rhodes announce the formation of the oath keepers in April 2009. What a difference a couple hundred years makes! CIA and FBI crawling over the green filming a handful of lowly, poor and mostly clueless, freedom loving New England patriots listen to people speaking about an idea of military and law enforcement actually honoring their constitutional oath. They had the works out that day, i recall some 50'ish looking woman hop out of a nice rental nissan, don a weird wig and costume and get in front of every camera she could find to do weird shit with a magic wand. "poison the well" as it were. CIA considers no jobs too low for their (under)paid idiots. America has been in the fight for its' life since 1776
