Melt away? No, melt into their skin, causing instant 3rd degree burns. A typical hydrocarbon solvent fuel air explosion like this one will cause a mixture of 1st degree burns with patches of 2nd degree, but put polyester clothes in the mix and it's straight to 3rd degree with no stops in between.
