For some reason my fickle bitch linux laptop when it losses full connection with hdmi while the lid is down, basically never restores hdmi when 'plugged back in' unless the lid goes back up. I need that mofo to switch fast so I can jump to my workout playlist for quick jump in workouts.
I debugged the shit out of X, frame buffers, upgraded the whole machine (emerge world), and updated the kernel, no avail (though it did seem to fix some bugs!). Then I noticed the machine was sleeping from dmesg. So went into the kernel and completely just removed it's ability to sleep at all. No fix.
Looked online "does a hdmi pass through exist where it tricks the machine into thinking a live hdmi is always on" and low to avail it was! What a holy shit invention heaven world we live in! Just ordered it, $7, just arrived and avail! This matha fucky is avail! We are working baby! What a world of heaven!
To quickly jump to a workout playlist, consider an old iPod or mp3 player and wireless/aux speaker. This way you won’t need to dick around with a full desktop computer. Last thing you want when working out is to be operating a computer terminal.
I know you like cool Linux systems and rigs but sometimes the wrists are bet slit with Occam’s Razor.
Was also thinking just need to simplify this and maybe just get an mp3 player. Would also allow me to take the same playlist to an actual gym. However though really it should be the phone that should do this. Not sure why the iphone makes this difficult / non standard.
Get a Note 9 off swappa. It has a headphone jack, you can install lineageOS, and it's a great little mp3 player. And I say all this as an extreme Linux Nerd myself.
Go to the grocery store. Go to the prepaid phone aisle. Bye a modern Android phone like a Motorola go play for $40. Do not buy a plan. Take said phone home and charge it up. Turn it on and put it in your Google account. Connect it to your wi-fi. You can do this without having a cell plan on the account
Download YouTube app or go to youtube. Choose your playlist or make your playlist. Buy yourself some Bluetooth speakers. Five below and Dollar general have a pretty good set of bluetooth speakers that are rechargeable for believe it or not $5.
You now have a system that can play your playlist independent of your computer that's easy to use easy to make new playlists and can be carried with you to the gym if they have wi-fi. Or you can download the phone the music onto the phone using some YouTube download app or something else.
