Only inland. Average summer high at the coast is 76F, becoming a magnet for all the tourists escaping urban heat/hell. Then it cools off and the average summer night is around 53F, all due to the heat sink effect from the 175 million cubic miles of the Pacific ocean.
California does get so ridiculously hot that it's the hottest place on earth. (aside from volcanoes) Death Valley and Furnace Creek get really toasty, with the recorded high at 134°F.
California also has twenty officially named glaciers, of "over 1700 snow and ice bodies".
Read this book about the world's worst disasters and under 'weather-related', it was a heat wave in Boston in 1910 (or so) that was responsible for killing the most people. The collapse of a molasses storage tower in the same city around the same time only killed a few, but it was hilarious reading about how the sticky mess spread throughout the entire city in the coming days.
imagine being so useless as to give up on air conditioning because it wont fit. i've known people that mount air conditioners in their cars with a generator in the trunk.

Oooh… so hot. What a hardship.
I wonder why it’s legal to have articles like this not be branded with “paid advertising,” because they are.
