Through meditation and other spiritual practices, you can legitimately increase your ability to affect the flow of events in the world around you through spiritual action.

When you pray to the king of the jews, you empower jews to rule you. When you pray to the Allfather of the Germanic peoples, you empower the Germanic peoples instead. But you can always just pray to a vague and general "source" or whatever if that seems more fitting. Meditating and studying metaphysics will do you more good than reading a bible written by, for, and about jews or reading the myths of your ancestors, though the myths of your ancestors may be very inspiring and some have useful spiritual allegories.
