Man, I remember being in like 1st grade and this one kid would pull his pants all the way down to use the urinal. This was one of those 100 year old schools with a bathroom with like 15 urinals across both walls. Beautiful brick building with wonderful architecture.

Anyway, I assumed he was an idiot. Upon reflection as an adult, I’m certain he was indeed retarded.

Was it all terrazzo flooring with urinals going up from the floor to the wall? I attended grade school in one of those old stone & brick buildings, terrazzo everywhere, green chalk boards with thick oak trims & zero fucking ventilation anywhere.

That’s a new word for me. No, my memory is black painted and sealed concrete or possibly granite or some stone.

As for ventilation, one of the windows on the 4th floor completely blew out of the wall, frame and all, due to win. It landed right on a girls desk. Thank God the girl got up to turn in an assignment or she could easily have been killed by the 84 inch window.

Engineer/custodian came up and reinstalled the window. All the kids were weary of that window.

While we're on the topic of learning new things vaguely regarding elementary school, my teacher used to tell us "Get out of the custodian's way" or "don't bother the custodians.", so through like 1st to 3rd grade, I though "Custodian" was a nationality. I remember one time we were naming random countries and the teacher was writing them on the board.

Turns out "Custodia" is not a country. Those were Mexicans.
