Received the quick change pallet system from Pierson Workholding today.
Still waiting on my CNC mill. I should get that in a week or two.
Still plenty of work ahead of me to get my shop setup for the new machine.

Ha! The last engineer I talked to said machinists were the tools. He's an engineer, he has letters after his name.

They may say that but, we are the Machinist that often tell them where they fucked up just by looking at their blueprints.

Do you ave experience with CNC

It can expensive really quick if you don't use the right cutter settings for the right material.

I remember one day the guy who used to run our CNC snapped 3 cutters within 15minutes

Yes, i used to run CNC machines all the time when i was just a wage slave.

Good stuff. I have done some rough industrial machining but nothing small and precise like that looks like

Small parts, but nothing to precise.

Ok but what does it all mean?
In simple language...what does it enable you to do? 3D print guns?

The idea is that the aluminum plates will have a bunch of little parts mounted to it. The CNC mill will machine all of those parts, while i can mount more parts on a second aluminum plate. Once the machine is done machining, i take the plate of finished parts out, and replace it with the prepped second plate and the machine can keep machining.
Less down time for the mill, and i can do other stuff while the CNC is busy.

machine little parts into what ffs? Screws, bolts, chastity belts?

Parts for the customer that made me sign an NDA so i can't tell you.

Sounds like an Efficiency III buff. Is there further processing or assembly required, or are those millings the finished product?

Well most parts need to be machined from two sides. So technically two operations, but both with the same procedure. Then the parts go to the fabricators and get welded to things. Then sandblasted and painted.

You could have done better for yourself. If you look around you can get cad files to make a lot of different styles of work holding setups. Honestly if you have access to an engineer they could probably make you a cad model to program it. Sounds like you're going to make some big batches, congrats hope you make a pile of cash.

I looked around plenty, this solution should work best for my application. I don't have time to engineer and build something myself. I've ordered a bunch more aluminum plates to make more quick change pallets. I'll be making 7 different parts, at least 2000 of each. With the potential of 20,000 more each.

Congrats, sounds like you are doing well.

Quick Pallet change stuff is wasted money when you could have bought a single 6in Kurt Vise.

[ - ] germ22 [op] 0 points 5 hoursMay 3, 2025 01:47:58 ago (+0/-0)

So standing at the machine and change parts every 5 minutes is better than loading a pallet and let the machine run unattended for an hour and do something else?

14 thousand for this order, and the potential for 140 thousand more

You may be better off hiring a job shop if you got 140k parts. I kinda doubt you've got the right cnc machine for that kind of volume.

Deleted other comment seen the other one above if you read it.

You could make your fixtures that fit into a vise setup instead of your overpriced quick change setup and still repeat within 0.001 in
