its really bizarre that had to ask for NK assistance since they have supposedly a standing army with nuclear weapons. truly bizarre display here. unless he is saving the rest of his troops for more of a direct combat with the west.

Not at all. You're asking the wrong question.
You're asking: "How does Russia benefit from this?"
When what you SHOULD be asking is: "How does NK benefit from this?"
It was part of the trade agreement that Putin made with Kim for 60,000 152mm artillery shells at $60 bucks a pop. That can be delivered overland, by rail, directly to ammunition depots near the front. During a conflict in which the number 1 battlefield killer has been artillery. For comparison, Russian made 152mm HE shells cost about $120 each (US made 155mm HE costs about $600 each)
The single most valuable element to ANY army is experience. Aside from minor actions, NK troops have not seen large scale direct combined arms combat since 1953. 72 years. Combat is an intensely Darwinian process and there is no substitute.
Kim saw an opportunity to get a division sized element of NK troops to receive training and experience in modern combined arms combat equipment and TTP's without any political or physical risk to NK itself.

Jookraine has over 30 Nations providing assistance as well as allowing their citizens to travel and join the conflict. It amazes me the cope western media and influncers put out about North Korean meat waves (all with any verifiable proof).

ruskie "special military operation" is not a declared war, but a "police action" So, they can't throw in their entire army as believe it or not, it's against the international law.
Ruskie has six military disctrics, each with their own standing army of 100k to 400k and none of these troops have been used yet in the Ukie.
Riskie has also mobilized about 300k troops that are standing off against the nato troops across the polish border. (don't put everything you have in one spot, kinda of thing, especially in the day of first strike tactical nukes)
Ruskie and N korea can rotate troops in and out of the combat zones to get them bloodied without too much pain. This is how you make a "combat tested army" instead of a bunch of raw recruits in untested weapon systems.
Ruskie also gets to figure out the new way of fighting without going all in and gets to test all their new toys like combat A.I. Robot drones and hypersonic missiles. same for the bestest North Korea. Something they both desperately needed.
Ruskie also gets to grind down almost all of Nato and bankrupt them without any effort on their part. What was the stat from yesterday??? The U.S. now has only 106 hours of munitions left for sustained combat and Chyna is not selling anymore precursors for making new weapons to the US.
