How people manage to get the tap in the right position with these containers without wrecking the thread by forcing things is beyond me. I've come up with a solution:

I guess another possibility is to put the tap in the right position and glue it with a waterproof glue?
As usual any hints would be appreciated.

Use Teflon tape on the threads of the tap. (makes it just a bit larger in diameter) Hence it will not need to turn as much to make a seat on the thread and can stand the tap upright if that's where you want it... It will also make a water-tight seal.
Do yourself a favor and never ask dangle for any kind of advice.
