Looked up the sidewinder missile for fun..

They've created 110,000 missiles. Avg cost is around 385,000

That missile has 270 confirmed kills.

That's roughly $156,000,000 per kill.

WTF

I think it's more than that today, I'm positive that the price was 80K 5years ago.

So like $108,000 today by the numbers.

But actual Unit Cost for the G-model in FY21 was listed as $216,717 just for the round, and the launcher was $249,700. So $466,417 to be able to fire one shot, which comes out to $558,538 in today's Monopoly currency.

@uvulectomy ...makes sense, is your reference a copy of the terms of military "procurement and production"...I do know this as a fact, good friends of mine own a high tech machine shop, they've been involved in big international cap x projects, and they are licensed by Kanastan, Grt Britain and US governments to design, manufacture and produce military components, just a point of interest, back in the GWB desert wars, 2002 - 2007, General Dynamics was awarded a total production contract (basically a consultant/broker) for the upgraded Abrams tank as well as retrofit of existing tanks as well as APCs, my friends scooped contracts for undercarriage torsional components and facial armor for the tank and apc and there was also a turret component that adds to the protection of the gunner (that was fucking heavy) and buddy told me that as far as they were concerned they could do without the other measly customers and do business exclusively with General Dynamics, they also did some shit for Raytheon in the form of "tower structures", anyways, 8years ago
I had them CNC 1000 rnds of .50cal @800grns boattail with gas check, using the tungsten composit material each rnd cost $2.83 on the floor, on a million projectile order my friends quoted $1.00 above floor cost for each bullet, they were informed 2 days after submission of quotation they were "way to high", anyways,.50 cal rnds back then were just 7 under $3.00.
Just so you know.

Who has more value in the theater of war? A lock-on payload that is 'launch and forget' or a single human life?

[ - ] Bassman9000 2 points 1 monthApr 27, 2025 22:32:37 ago (+2/-0)

A lock on payload. Soon it'll be robots holding the launcher. And each robot will cost a half million.

Jewish math.

I didn't know shoulder launched weapons counted as a 'who'.

My post was pointing out the absurdity of war, but I think I came across the wrong way :(
