I'm pushing 70, which makes me the oldest male of the bloodline, as recorded in the genealogy crap my Granny was so obsessed with. All the rest never made it past age 65, and most dropped dead around 60.

So yes, I'm aware my expiration date is approaching. Not looking forward to it, but unlike with the vast majority of xtians, it does not terrify. Death/rebirth is an unavoidable ordeal...the price for admittance to the next life.

Yes, but for some reason only when I'm trying to fall asleep. Death doesn't seem so real when you're awake and occupied with life's bullshit.

Everyone who has ever lived has or will die. We're in good company.

It's good news if you believe in an afterlife. In that case you would merely regard your current self a prisoner on Earth.

I will live forever, or die trying.

[ - ] observation1 4 points 2 daysApr 27, 2025 12:41:02 ago (+4/-0)

We are not our bodies. Our souls, envelope our bodies. It's like a vehicle.

Our bodies die. Our souls live forever.

This is the only game in town. It's a fun one.

I have a similar mindset to this question

[ - ] founder 1 point 2 daysApr 27, 2025 15:54:36 ago (+1/-0)

but what about niggers? they are feral and subhuman, do they have souls? if so its a crime

Oh it's absolutely real. I've known enough people who have died that have been close to me and so it's very real. I do things accordingly. I don't allow myself to get lost in a job just sort of to continue the grind to make more money. I plan my life thinking okay I have my health at this stage for this many approximate years so this is the time to do these things that I will be able to enjoy while my health is good and then later I will do other things when I am less mobile. That is the most important thing that I think people should do that most people don't do. Most people work right up until they're 65 or 70 and while they are likely to still be alive at that time they don't realize that they're probably going to have had a major health event by then. They'll either have had their first heart attack or they'll have prostate cancer or their knees will be going and it will not be enjoyable to try to go anywhere or their hip will be going or something else. And if you've spent all your life working thinking I'll save enough for retirement so when I'm 65 or 70 I'll be able to do what I want you're going to find that no you can't do what you want you should have done that stuff 10 or 20 years ago and then you can go back to work in some kind of an office capacity or small Private Business capacity when you're 70 and you can't get around as well but you can sit and do stuff.

I'll tell you something else when you really truly accept the fact that you will die and that becomes easier as some of your friends die and your parents die etc etc. Cuz you have people on the other side. Once you truly accept that you will die you worry about some things a lot less. Oddly enough you worry about getting sick a lot less. Because your general fear of getting sick is the worry that you might die. But once you truly accepted the fact that yes I will die and everything I see around me is a temporary experience for me then you worry less about that. Now I still worry about getting injured because I would like to avoid injury and keep my body healthy for as long as possible to continue enjoying life but it's a different kind of worry. It's more like I want to keep my car running not thinking I'm going to have the car running for a million years.

Now the other thing that I think happens when you truly accept the fact that you're going to die is you do try to put in place some sort of a plan to prevent a bad death. You kind of try to prevent a circumstance where you might be unconscious or rendered mentally incapable and be stuck in some home or something where you might be treated badly. You know or maybe you and I haven't but maybe you stockpile away that if you get into a situation where you no longer want to live that you could make sure that you choose the time and place and it'll be quick and painless.

It does get easier to accept the fact of death when you have lost friends and you've lost your parents because you do see it as the possibility of seeing them on the other side. You know your religious beliefs no matter who you are and what you believe very over time and part of the freedom that I've had is to just say you know I don't know but this is what I choose to believe and then you're not wrestling with all that stuff too much. and that also kind of makes it easier. I think if you're panicked about do you believe the writer the wrong thing then it probably makes accepting your own eventual death more difficult.

You also spend less time thinking about doing things that will make people remember you or whatever. Because you just realize as you see the movie stars that you go up with or dying off and these other things that it doesn't matter what you do you are not going to be remembered after 50 years. I really don't care. You are not going to be remembered you could be the president you're not going to really be remembered you could build some great company and in 50 years time you're not going to be remembered.

Ironically you do realize that the only legacy you will ever actually leave for more than 50 years will be your descendants which is one of the reasons I tell people it's so important to have children. You may think you're going to make some great business success or something else and and it's important because people will then know how great you are and that was your mark on Earth but none of that will be remembered after 50 years. What will be remembered is your ancestors and your descendants. If I look at my ancestors I'm the one who remembers them and I remember them because they are the chain that resulted in me. If that chain ends then everybody in the chain becomes a meaningless nothing. So having children is your most important legacy. That's really something I wish more people realize when they were there in their twenties it certainly something I wish I realized when I was in my late teens and early twenties. Having children is your most important legacy. It's the only thing that will cause you to be remembered by anyone at all if being remembered is important to you.

Absolutely, good points.

If you really want to be remembered, to have a legacy, then write. Writing is digital information and is well preserved.

Even painting is not as resilient, it's analog it changes and fades; writing however does not.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 4 points 2 daysApr 27, 2025 10:48:30 ago (+4/-0)

Well I think the other thing you could do if you really wanted to be remembered and we're really obsessed with it is go get yourself a big block of stone and get them more a monument Creator to carve your name or whatever deeply in it and then go take that big block of stone and drop it from a airplane or a helicopter way out in the woods in a nondescript place that is not at the top of the mountain that will be found tomorrow and then eventually civilizational move out there and someone will stumble upon your piece of stone with your a minute and you will be remembered.

But what is it really matter.

Life is a brief ride on a tour boat and you're supposed to enjoy the tour boat and the sights and no one is supposed to remember your wrappings after you've had your ride.

And what does it matter if other people who won't be remembered remember you either unless they're your lineage that you had a part in giving life to.

I've looked up my ancestors and I never knew them but I remember fondly with thanks the great great grandfathers and grandmothers who gave me life because they took the time to have kids and raise them and did something right so they survived long enough to have kids themselves.

Who else really needs to remember them. What does it matter that anybody else they didn't know remembers them.

There are very few writings that actually last for a long periods of time.

When you're young you're told certain books are classics and you should read them and then I was kind of later surprised to realize that actually those books had just become popular 10 or 20 years earlier and so that's why the teachers were saying they were classics and you should read them. There are rare exceptions to that like the books from ancient Roman leaders and philosophers and Greek philosophers but for the most part writing is also pretty much forgotten within 50

The music of Bach and Beethoven and other people like that is an exception but the likelihood you will get the popularity of those people which partly came from their rarity at the time is pretty unlikely so it's likely your music would not last.

Again it just really doesn't matter and you have to get comfortable with the fact that not only will you physically die but you will also be forgotten and that's perfectly okay. It's absolutely perfectly okay that you will be forgot. And all the people that don't remember you will also be forgotten so what does it matter whether they remember you or not.

Just enjoy your life it won't last forever look around make sure you're looking at the trees the grass the flowers all the things you take for granted. Look at them with amazement and look at their complexity in their beauty and their simplicity and never forget to pay attention to those things that you take for granted because one day you will not be able to see them.

Depends on the quality of your writing

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 2 daysApr 27, 2025 17:48:16 ago (+1/-0)

what about songs? is that the same as writing? or is it better?

This is one of thes best comments I have ever read here. I couldn’t agree more and you have, rather succinctly actually, said what I have felt and discussed in my own head several times over the last few years. Especially after watching my father die. You have one prupose here. That purpose is to make more of you. That’s it. That’s all. That is the meaning of life.

Great reply.. I copy pasted it and sent it to a friend who's dad is dying soon...
