Cooking Talk with Dangus

submitted by paul_neri to Cooking 1 monthApr 26, 2025 20:01:12 ago (+3/-1)     (Cooking)

Hi dangus. How you been? Oh, sorry to hear that.If you weren't overweight you might be able to balance better. Trite to say but...balance is important to cycling.

Anyway...what I wanted to ask you is how do you think people cook raw green beans?
Me and the missus couldn't figure out why people, except me, would buy green beans unless they were super health conscious or had a way of cooking them that made eating them a delight.

As you know, dangus, I have a difficult digestive system and I need to eat "greens" so I don't "jam up". Your advice in the past, while appreciated, has not been helpful i.e.KYS!

So I eat green beans not because I find them tasty but because they are very good at keeping me regular. When I buy them at the shop their container is often only half full which suggests other folk buy them too but...why? I doubt it's because they have tricky digestive systems too and I doubt they are vegetarians like me. My town is a struggle-town where, I'd imagine, folk would be meat-eaters (Southern Boys). Don't get me wrong...I'm impressed that folk here eat green beans. I'm just perplexed at the phenomenon as I wouldn't have expected it. The missus reckons they probably boil the beans and eat them with a salad but that's a lot of messing about. I said: "dangus would know"!

The pics are of my main meal which I prepare in my "camp kitchen" under the verandah.
Here is a description of my diet fyi:

In one big bowl (microwaved):

fresh green beans (handful)
tin of chilli beans
tiny vegetable-filled pastries (junk food)
half a spoon of kimchi (a fancy name for Sauerkraut)
a few sun-dried tomato strips
garlic chives/onion
snow peas
potato pieces (if available (from Her Majesty's table)
pasta (if available...)
rice (if available...)
pepper
olive oil

Supplemented during the day by:

Toast and marmalade etc
handful of cashew nuts
coffee
four pieces of licorice.

My mom would fry up some bacon pieces and then pressure cook them together. They tasted good, but if they even slightly overcooked (which was not uncommon as you couldn't see the beans to judge), the magic disapeared.

Wife cooks them asian style. Stir fry with all kinds of yummy sauces which I have no awarness of except it tates great. Find the asian recipe online and try it. Good stuff. We've been growing them now for years in the garden, and every year the tiny patch (these are pole beans although I just use twine on bamboo poles that I poach from the neighbors bamboo that grows in our yard, not bush beans) produces a shit ton. So much that the neighbors get some.

You saute the green beans in bacon grease or butter, then salt heavily. They’re a shit vegetable. Battered and deep fried is another option. It’s basically nigger food.

Interesting.

Your mother used to grow patches of green beans in her gash. It was regularly fertilized and always moist. Unfortunately the beans all grew to be retarded and gay, like you.

No but my ol' man used to grow scarlet runner beans which the women in the family would cook (boil) and add olive oil which made them relatively tasty. But I think scarlet runners are naturally tasty. The green and blue (Purple King) beans I buy/grow aren't naturally tasty.

No but I cook my main meal in my "man cave" where I am not henpecked for e.g. leaving droplets of water in the sink. What's a sink for ffs?

I'm sorry, paul. Hopefully one day...
