I don't mind if a game has 3d elements. But if it's whole thing is that it's 3d, that's not a game. That's a 3d simulator.

I feel like very few games after some of the first to go 3d are actually games. They're just f'ing simulators. And somehow we've gotten like 20 years of over and over again simulators instead of games.

FF7 gets 500 thousand remakes. But they self admittedly won't even touch remaking FF6 because "the amount of content to make it 3d would take over a decade to do right".

FUCK 3D "GAMES"

I think I agree with this entirely.

Kids have been playing the same shooters for over 20 years now.

Graphics were supposed to improved but now it all looks blurry and shitty. Shaders and ray-tracing. Ray-tracing is gay and stupid.

Ray tracing is gay, anti aliasing is gay, bloom is gay, super sampling is gay, and pre packaged unreal engines are fucking gay.

Why is every single cunting game humans running about with "real world" physics and graphics.

No originality when you copy/paste engines at all.

Expanding a bit on a reason why ray-tracing is gay and stupid, its proponents will sell the "reflections for free" line but usually leave out how it takes time for a light to build up all its rays.

The effect of that can be seen when lights move around, and it looks as if light-speed has been reduced to something sub-sonic and perceptible. Productions using ray-tracing will design around it, but ultimately if one gives players a way to shine lights around by themselves, there'll be ways to expose it.

I hate the film grain and motion blur, why the fuck is that in every game now. I turn it off immediately.

FF7 was originally being designed as a 3D port of FF6 for playstation 1. Somewhere along the way they decided it would be a better direction just to make a separate project altogether.

It's why you see so many steam punk style assets in the first area of FF7 (the original), including those weird magitech mech suits featured in the beginning of FF6. You'll even find Kafka's laugh used as a sound asset in a later area in FF7.

With the playstation 1 they would have had the opportunity for better sound quality too. The cacophonous opening FF6 music is a low bit rendering of a theremin. If the original sound was captured, it would have felt like a cheap "spooky" public domain sound. Rendering it into snes makes it have a unique sound.

Low graphics, low quality sound, etc allows a game to force your imagination to fill in the blanks. Upgrading to 3D and better sound can create a situation where the result clashes with where your imagination took you, and can be lacklustre.

FF6 because "the amount of content to make it 3d would take over a decade to do right".

If not done right it would look too much like FF7 which like mentioned was essentially a remix to begin with.

Love this response thanks!!!

Yeah, 3D at the expense of content is a poor trade - and that also seems like an interesting admission that Final Fantasy 7 is more shallow. If there has to be a limitation, its place would be titles focused on action, Descent being a great example in actually using all dimensions more than just visually.

Another great example is not merely 3D but all the way into VR - Beat Saber! The most retarded of its reviewers called it out for not making use of all the VR controls, forgetting that the actual VR controls are total ass. Beat Saber doesn't mess around with buttons or shitty movement implementations, it's just hitting stuff and leaning occasionally, and it's come out ahead.

I refuse to play RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 for that exact reason.

And Chris Sawyer didn’t program that one so no way in heck it had the same charm as the first two.

Backgammon is 3D.
Is it a game or a simulator?

If you want 3D FF6, try Octopath Traveler.

I think one of the things that made 'older' games great is they didn't try to simulate every single aspect of your senses in full completion. So part of your experience was your imagination filling in the gaps.

Octopath Traveler looks like it's got a lot of potential looks like fun! Thanks!!

(No I actually don't want FF6 ever remade =), it's just an example that less "graphics" means more "game" and "story" and imagination etc)

Stop playing AAA games made by jews and play indie games made by a small team of White people.
