Can someone who knows more about government explain to me how a judge can block the secretary of defense or the president? I thought the military was the executive branch's domain as well. Am I missing something, or is this just the "new normal" so they can continue making one political party look like two?

Yep. This whole thing breaks down when it's divided. At some point, people have to realize that to be united, you've got to be against everyone else. I don't like it, but reality doesn't give a damn what I like.
