I saw a rocket pass by pretty close. The trail of reddish flame and smoky dust that was tailing it made me think of a comet made of frozen blood that would burst on impact.

When I was 15 and... stupid, I joined a LARP of Vampire the Masquerade/Werewolf the Apocolypse crossover. My character was a werewolf with the negative trait "cub form", which means that, since I became a werewolf as a young wolf cub, I would never become an adult (yeah, I know; cringe, but it was the 90s and I was really stupid). Anyway, the day of the first in-character game, I was quite literally the only one on the "werewolf" side to show up. Seeing my character surrounded by over a dozen "enemy" players, I decided I could run reconnaissance by passing my character off as a normal, non-werewolf, wolf, and spying.
Cue to a young lady I had a supremely massive crush on, who grabbed my actual face, shoved it directly into her chest, and said "Oh, I gotta pet the puppy". Now, I don't know about how you were when you were 15, but she could have called me what she damned well pleased as long as I was mushed against her breasts like that, and I stayed in her company for the rest of the evening. Seeing as I have an extremely common RL name, the nickname "Puppy" stuck, and was my nickname for the next 15+ years. When it came time to start doing things like making email accounts and online names, it was natural to go with it. But it also usually needed some sort of number after it to make it unique.
As far back as I can remember, 5:28pm has always been my exact favorite time of the day. It's evening, so the day is done, supper smells are usually in the air, the "good" reruns are on TV, and the rest of the night still lays ahead. I even did an art project in highschool that involved all the important numbers in your life, and the main centerpiece of mine was "5:28".
So, for the next few years, my online account name everywhere that didn't matter was "Puppy528". After a few years, I fell in love with a total mistake of a woman, and still being a bit of an unintelligent sort when it came to women, I got her pregnant early in our relationship, before I was aware of just how bad an idea that was. My son was born on a Tuesday in November, at 5:28pm. Technically not a related fact to me using it in my username, but I wanted to include it, because it was an important event for me.
So, anywhere I don't care about my username (read:everywhere), I still generally default to the name "puppy528", just so that I don't have to remember if I have an account there, what it is, etc, etc, etc. This included old Voat, so it was pretty reasonable for me to just keep it, here.

TL,DR; I was a stupid kid with a nickname and a lazy adult who kept it when online.

I don't hang out with vapid people to begin so that's why the women I knew growing up may have been few, but they were quality.

It's the same now, I know few people, but they wouldn't be traded for anything.

They figured out the basic mechanics in session one.

There is also the chance that maybe you suck ass as a teacher? You have to make it fun to learn the rules.

I suggest having the party meet at a fair and they play games like ring toss to learn ranged attacks, pinata to learn melee attacks and damaging items with hardness, a rope climb/hammer might tester to show ability checks, and maybe a ladder cross to demonstrate saving throws!

I have a dyslexic member in one of my groups, she does amazing well will a spell caster because I drew what her spells do and the dice she needs to roll.

Try harder to connect if that what you desire.
