This all depends on the owner's situation. If they have an existing property that is profitable and can tie the wedding venue into the same basic overhead (non-variable) structure, and if they can charge the right prices, then they can be profitable.

Our family knew a couple that ran a certain "outdoor entertainment" type of business. They had a massive property. They put a gorgeous hall in an unused corner of this property. The guy's wife started renting it out for weddings and she is booked year round. You're charging $15k per couple for a Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday morning clean-up. They have contractors for the booze and decor, all extra. It's cheaper than venues in the city and all you really trade on is proximity to hotels (about a 5 minute drive).

There is no way they lose money. That doesn't mean they aren't putting dirty money in. I'm not sure. It would be easy to launder drug money through a business like that. I agree that a standalone business of this kind would probably be tough to profit on, probably more so in the first 5 which is why many probably fail.

Hmmmm....interesting theory. You have evidence or it it just that wedding venues are part of the larger pattern? They have most of the money, stands to reason they'd put it into anything that even has the possibility of generating value? After all, there's no risk of financial failure with stolen money. No matter how stupid the idea. They also handle all the influencing so they can generate artificial demand with their brainwashed masses. By golly I think you're on to something. So how to prove it?
