They don't do anything except get in Israel's way.

Russia was directly linked to both Syria, and China in the last decade via arm sales, and use of Russian "advisors" to train their domestic troops.

I couldn't find anything regarding formal treaties regarding defense.

most Iranians hate the mullahs. Iran wasnt Muslim 100 years ago. Persian art, architecture, and literature was high level for centuries, until Islamist invaders brought it to a halt. Iran has never waged war on its neighbors.
