I really don’t understand video games these days. We’ve gone way beyond novelty and the graphics have looked the same for 20 years. (But blurrier)

They’ve become a commodity. Why bother with a console when you can download quality games for free?

Rhetorical questions. I’m not a gamer. Video games give me no dopamine.

If they weren't trying to exploit you, they wouldn't need to keep the source code hidden from you.

at which point do they say they will stop making physical media? all this is just a way to let people share digital downloads between systems, which is good.

Fuck that shit. The online features on consoles will eventually close an oups, you have lost everything. You need a new console and buy remakes.

There is no more online for everything before the Switch. Eventually that will happen to the switch too. No thank you.

Agreed. I saw this coming years ago and largely stopped participating in gaming. As well, who wants to spend all that money on mostly broken garbage these days? Stockholm Syndrome I'd say.

My latest consols are a Wii U, a 3DS and a PS3. I don’t intend to buy a console ever again. I rather get a nice computer and pirate everything. I only play old games anyway.

I jus have a PC that can run older stuff which is just fine for me. Hard copies of Oblivion cause you can't mod it right through steam. Which is also fine by me. I have a ps4 with one physical game and some digital stuff I got for less than $10. I do have a switch with one game. A harvest moon title where I actively practice eugenics on my livestock.

The next gen systems likely won't even accept physical media without either swapping storage drives and perhaps even minor modding. It's too easy to slap a shit load of roms onto something and play free. Just look at the retro/alt handheld market, it's fully caught up to modern gaming. In fact, a lot of roms run better on newer alternative handhelds. Even up to the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo knows this, and is doing everything it can to solve its massive hemorrhaging problem due to the emulation issue. Not even this will save it, though, it'll be interesting to see what Nintendo is like in 30 years. Even in 20, I bet they'll be reduced to a few selected Intellectual Properties or maybe there will just be price hikes through the roof.

Agreed. Next Gen will likely also need proprietary storage so no more buying massive drives and reformatting them to be visible to a system.

Nintendo themselves could solve a lot emulation problems by making those old for example Pokémon legacy titles available for download instead of old hard copies selling way north of $100 now. They're stubborn fucks and they march to their own beat which I can appreciate to an extent but their copyright watch dogs shutting down rom sites when they have the coding to sell the product is just asinine.

Guess I won't be buying games anymore. These days I only play PC releases for free and then buy a console version to have a physical copy. If there's no physical copy anymore, I won't be buying.

Funny thing about physical copies these days are the discs just seem to be .exe files or something. I used to get my games at my old workplace for cost. Like what we'd pay a customer and none of them were pop and play. Always a download always an install. Always a patch.

You will own nothing and be happy.

They can get fucked. filthy little degenerate slopes. Hopefully Russia keeps its plans to take Japan.

I was ok with Nintendo up until they let their North America localization teams run wild.

Russia take Japan? Lol, that gave me a laugh

Ask what problem this is solving

[ - ] __47__ 4 points 1 monthMar 28, 2025 13:52:33 ago (+4/-0)

Nintendo's profits.

Jus a reminder. There are plenty of old good physical games. I don't partake in gaming much these days but I'd rather play my turbo modded Oblivion over any of this new shit.

Same here. When I do gaming, it's only ever the old, classic stuff: old school console up to PS2 and PC games prior to 2012.

Latest game I played was Resident Evil Village. Wasn't too bad. My pozz meter didn't go off too hard. Typical Resident Evil game. Kinda shit first play through as you level your guns and such.

I love PS2 stuff. My favorite has to be Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne. Fighting every entity from mythology and religion and shaping the next world through your actions? Count me in.

Only problem with old school stuff these days are a bunch of nerds treating it like precious metals and charging ridiculous prices. I mean ffs they grading VHS tapes now.
