America's department stores are trying to stay relevant in a new era of consumer behavior.

As consumer preferences have shifted to low-price convenience players like Amazon (AMZN), Walmart (WMT), TJX (TJX), >and Ross Stores (ROST), legacy department stores face a critical juncture.

"There's all these other alternative retailers [that] didn't use to exist like Walmart and Target, ... in hardware Home Depot and Lowe's, and in beauty like Ulta, and, of course, online like Amazon," Morningstar analyst David Swartz told Yahoo Finance. "The department stores were created for a completely different customer."

Macy's has some great deals online. On quality goods. I bet the physical stores suffer from losses due to shoplifting.

Absolutely. Shoplifting is fucking out of control. I worked in a second hand shop for years. Books, media, legacy electronics, games whatever basically. Funny thing about that place was it was always the dirty white meth heads stealing from us and the niggers trying to sell stolen records and Blu rays.

Got ya. Fuckers would try hiding shit in baby strollers. Definitely not the brightest. Especially when they would try to sell me unique shit like dbz toys and get themselves banned from hidden inventory stickers we would use to tell if an item was sold or not.

I don't know anyone that shops at either of those places. Also, in my area there is a place that sells new name brand clothes for a set price each day. I've got some decent pants for $4.
