However, there was a similar experiment I read back in the early reddit years, where this group hired a designer for a logo. Unbeknownst to him, they preplanned his ride from the airport to casually pass by various objects and symbols on the way to the office. Long story short, he "spontaneously" came up with a logo design that they had already drawn during their planning, based on the images he had seen from the car window.
Moral of the story: It's incredibly easy to influence humans completely outside of their awareness. Even when the truth is revealed, people will still attribute it to a coincidence and have their own rationale for how their ideas were all their own.
He told them 5 minutes in advance they would be drawing something, so they all had in their minds what they wanted to draw. Then he quickly and suddenly told them to draw, draw very quickly, and basically rushed them all through it.
Instead of their super cool unique drawing they were planning, they had to spontaneously come up with something simple, but still "unique" enough to feel like the experiment didn't work on them. Most of them probably drew something different, we're just seeing three of the star people.
But man, I was hoping he would have everyone flip their card at the same time and it would just be a sea of dicks.

Maybe volunteers in the first row drew a star, and waved their drawing around before he said go. Maybe a combination of a lot of other prep work.
