Meanwhile the official policy of the Ayatollah is that nuclear weapons are not allowed by Allah. That is why Iran does not have them nor an active program to develop them. This policy can be changed for protection and it is sometimes discussed inside Iran as a way to counter the Israeli threat but there is not only NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM in Iran but there is an explicit policy from the highest authority in the country, on the books for years, against it.

The main issue with Iran getting a nuke is that it will trigger an arms race in the region. The Saudi's and UAE will immediately buy them from Pakistan and the Turks will likely develop one as well. Egypt wouldn't be far behind. This is one reason why Russia has made a military alliance with Iran - it offers them some of the deterrent of a nuclear umbrella without the Persians needing to do it and cause these other issues. Russia is the most anti nuclear-proliferation country in the world. They also have an official policy regarding Israel's "Samson Doctrine" and that is to just nuke Israel first to prevent them from lashing out.
