You are actually correct - just went online and saw a bunch of recent images - i imagine only because of it's iconic landmark designation some bean counter in the SF council is constantly reeeing over the ongoing beatification upkeep and costs, lol. (probably add a few extra hundred per year to the local homeowner's/ residents' rates).

I visited San Francisco.
That's where I met my first (self-proclaimed) "Targeted Individual".
The cigarettes were too expensive and the streets were absolutely fucked.
The bridge was pretty.

I stayed in the tenderloin area back in 1988 when I flew out to see the Grateful Dead new years run. We stayed at the cheapest hotel we could find since we were 19 year old kids.
That was when I saw my first tranny, and even back then you could tell the nights were crazy. Saw a big blood soaked towel in one doorway. I was still very naive but even then the area wasn’t that bad during the day.
