I would have handled this differently -

He wasn't sentenced to 500 days, he could leave jail at any time. He was told he had to stay away from school while disciplinary action was taking place. He wouldn't and harassed the head teacher. They got a court order to stay away. He defied it and attended. He was still getting paid btw. He was arrested for defying the court order. He was eventually put in jail. All he had to do was tell the court he wouldn't attend the school. He wouldn't. Could have left prison at any time but he chose to stay.
