A family member is freaking out because she recently got blood work and her LPL cholesterol was “high” at 104. The top range for normal is 100. I told her it’s total bs, not to worry, and for the love of god do not start taking meds. I feel like the charts are a scam and they keep changing the normal range. I admit I haven’t done a lot of research on it but common sense tells me I’m right. Any thoughts?

I have no idea if 100 is better than 200. Ya got good and bad cholestorol. Before that we only had bad, bu now we have both bad and good. I don't even play a doctor on the internet but I suspect it's all bullshit. Eat real food.
Whoops meant LDL. I just asked her what her total cholesterol is and that number is 185. She isn’t overweight and exercises regularly so I don’t think she needs to do anything but you know how some people are with doctors and medical advice.
Those are certified rookie numbers and nothing to worry about. Notice the gap between the upper limit of normal LDL (100) and the beginning of borderline high (130). In between those numbers you are slightly above normal but not at a level that is significant health wise.
Yeah she's fine. Depends on what she's eating but it could be her LDL is a little higher from eating fatty meat and/or dairy. High LDL is > 130, and very high is > 160. Your relative is far from that.
185 for total cholesterol is quite good. Total chol/HDL ratio is 2.3 which is also on the low end, in a good way.
Cholesterol levels generally can increase with age as it becomes harder for the body to clear out LDL cholesterol. So, even if a person has a very good diet and exercises their numbers may slightly drift upwards anyways.
Every cell in the body uses cholesterol. So get PLENTY in your diet.
The Low Density lipoproteins are the same as the high density ones but damaged and shrunken due to inflammation and oxidation from seed oils and sugar.
However, the threshold for these values has been lowered several times over the decades in an effort to sell more statins.
Find the evidence of this fact and you will hopefully calm their nerves.
My understanding is cholesterol readings aren’t across the board. In otherwords, what may be a high reading for one, is just fine for someone else. I don’t see a doctor or a dentist unless something hurts.

Your relative can just improve her diet and exercise more to bring everything down.
