Walmart asked Chinese suppliers to lower prices, aiming to absorb the new tariff burden at the supplier level rather than passing it on to consumers. The move is part of its strategy to maintain pricing power amid a value war with other retailers competing for cash-strapped consumers.
Bloomberg reports that the big-box retailer has asked Chinese suppliers, including those producing clothing and kitchenware, to reduce prices by about 10% per round of tariffs, likely shouldering the full cost of President Trump's duties. The report was based on information from people familiar with the matter.
The people said that few suppliers have complied with Walmart's request.

in a sense its a catch 22.
you want more factories to come back home but the socio-economical "environment" is not the same as it was in the 80's and 90's when they began to leave

that is true the issue here is will americans pay more to buy made in america?? that's the crux of the issue.
if an american company is offering me a product that costs more than what it normally costs then i will not buy that product because simply i dont have infinite purchasing power
if a foreign company is offering me a cheaper version i will go with said cheaper version because my wallet demands it. in my heart i would love to support my fellow american entrepreneurs but not at the cost of being without cash at the end of the month because ya know i gotta pay the bills too and things such as utilities and insurances are going through the roof at least in my own state of florida.
the issue is complicated and that complication is called inflation

That doesn’t have to be an issue when tariffs are imposed.

Everything was going to become more expensive anyway because of inflation.
Tariffs don't cause things to become expensive long-term, they bring down the costs long term, heres why:
The tariffs are, by definition, imposed only on imports.
This creates an incentive to build factories and producers here.
This creates jobs.
More jobs, means less unemployment, meaning companies have to compete for labor, raising wages.
So as costs go up, wages go up.
The cost of transportation goes down because you're not moving products and materials halfway around the world.
This has a ripple effect. Products made in america, that require foreign parts, partial labor, or imported materials gradually begin to be sourced in-nation.
Inflation meets an equilibrium between cost, demand, labor supply, and wages.
The overall affect is deflation, money becoming more valuable.

Wish we got their EV cars too. Not that I want one, but the sheer value for money would make domestic retailers lower their price.
I'm not a yank but your car prices are fucking hilarious. I get it, in part due to stupid 7 year loans and shit public transport.

see the stupidity in that statement. i disliked that nigger too but this dude can only see things through his partisan eyes. one thing is wishing to starve for your party and another thing is when you are actually doing it.
i saw plenty of those ppl (ideologues i call them) starving for their party in current commie countries.
i saw a video recently of an old woman that died of malnutrition in commie cuba. she was begging for a glass of milk before falling on the floor dead on the spot.
