software needs to be constantly maintained. technical debt needs to be pruned regularly or it builds up and legacy code becomes spaghetti.
from a business standpoint, technical debt does not matter because it doesn't immediately impact the bottom line. over time it does, but typically management does not understand this.
in order to have a sustainable codebase you need very technically minded management over the life span of a given project. this is a rare situation because technically-minded management is expensive.

Hardware is so unbelievably fast in this era.
I propose a hard stop in development. No more new code. We’ve gone well beyond the point of commodity with the modern web. No new operating systems. No new programs. Just maintain the working stable builds we have and work to secure them.
This gravy train has gone on long enough and we’re at diminishing returns. Only thing new about windows 11 is they put the Start button in the center. Shame Steve Jobs wasn’t alive to see it.
New needs from computers will resurface given enough time. Let human needs dictate the tool of the computer rather than the other way around.
