Evidently it does - very limited opportunity to successfully use the procedure - but for those meeting the criteria it seems to have enabled them to recover enough 'partial vision' to actually drive again and do things like ski.

The structure made from the tooth is then implanted into the patient's cheek and left there for around four months.
This is to allow the tooth to grow a new blood supply.
The inner surface of the eyelids, corneal surface, and any scar tissue are removed from the eye.
The cheek skin structure is grafted to your eye with, essentially, a round magnifying glass in the cornea area.
The pink part that you see is the same color as your inner cheek tissue backed by a living hardened tooth fashioned into a dome.
