Does my ISP shut off my internet when I torrent without a VPN? Yes.

Does my ISP shut off my internet when I torrent with a VPN? No.

This is 100% why I have a VPN. After reboot a few months ago I forgot to start it up. Torrented something soon after and got a phone call saying I was on my last strike before I was disconnected.

I'll take 'things that never happened' for $1,000, Alex.

You are an absolute moron after reading through your replies here.

VPNs do not give you anonymity, but they do keep your ISP from snooping on everything you do. And for anyone who sails the high seas, VPN is a must these days.

I am Le RegisteredUser. I'm tech savvy. I found a fellow autist online that is black-pilled. Shut up you fucking retard (both of you and your mom).

What an idiot. Why do people feel they need to address topics that they don't thoroughly understand?

Do VPNs provide full online anonymity? No.
Do VPNs provide value? Yes.

You essentially transfer your trust from the ISP to the VPN provider. At minimum, the provider can see where your traffic is going and the type of traffic it is. They could provide this information to law enforcement or sell it to third parties. Or, if you do your homework, you can use a VPN provider that destroys all that information the moment you disconnect.

There are several other ways that you could be tracked online that have little or nothing to do with your internet traffic. To attain complete anonymity, you would need to employ several tools and techniques.

But your isp can still see traffic to the vpn, and out the other side of the vpn.

There's like 1 vpn that stores data in volatile memory, but there are masses that are just piping that info to the government, assuming they aren't run by the gov in the first place.

VPN provider that destroys all that information

To attain complete anonymity

You are exceptionally stupid, there is no such thing.

if you do your homework
You obviously have not looked into this very much. Venture off the beaten path and you'll be surprised. Again, you'll have to find a provider that you can trust. Figure it out yourself.

Nothing is certain but death and taxes
You're being pedantic. I'm not going to place an asterisk everywhere to clarify that which a reasonable person could understand.

Given enough time and resources, you could be tracked down. The goal is to make it extremely difficult and not worth the effort.
Avoid 14 eyes
Proxy hop
Use embedded tunnels
Use live media or TailsOS
Set up strong encryption
Use strong passwords (no biometrics)
And, I can't stress this enough, don't shit where you eat.

If you anticipate being targeted, take extra precautions.

This dude is an idiot about not using a vpn.

However he has some solid advice for programs that he uses - and basically zero cell phone.

EDIT: I would occasionally go through several hours of randomly not being able to load upgoat and a couple of other 'ostensibly' free speech sites here in NZ - then when i remember to turn on the vpn - bingo.
Same with some catbox images and other video posts - no bueno but successfully resolves once i utilize the vpn.

VPNs are a great way to filter for people who believe they have something to hide. They're probably useful for bypassing country restrictions on various content too.

I've saved thousands with a vpn as opposed to paying for cable/streaming and 80 dollar ufc and boxing fights.
