There's a very important thing to know that I don't think most people do know and that is your eyes can self-correct by changing the shape of the back of the eye so that the retina moves into the plane of focus of your cornea. The trigger that your eye uses to permanently shape the back of your eyeball is whether or not your retina is getting a sharply focused picture which basically means a high contrast image. Anybody with a camera knows that if you're out of focus the image is blurry and less contrast but if you're in for focus the image is sharp and there's more contrast across the image. You're retina senses this as well it's how them eye muscles focus the cornea but it's also how the eyeball itself can adjust its own shape over a longer period of time by growing to put the redneck in a place where it can always be in focus when the muscles of the cornea are exercised to their maximum near and far distance in order for the retina to be able to do that though it must be exposed to ultraviolet light which is outdoors in the sunlight. So your eye cannot self correct if all you do is spend your time inside and indoor lights or looking at lights like the screen on your on your phone. This is why it's really terrible to wear sunglasses outdoors. Your eyes need the ultraviolet light. If you want to do the best thing you can do to correct your eyes what you want to do is take off any glasses that you might wear take off any sunglasses go outside on sunny days and take a yardstick ruler and put it up to the bottom of your eye and focus is clear as closely as you can on the ruler close to your eye and then slowly focus down the ruler and then focus on a distant object on the horizon and then focus back on the ruler closer and closer to your eye and then back on the horizon and do that over and over again as many times as you can stand it for you know 5 or 10 minutes a day in the bright sunlight and over a period of a couple of weeks your eye will adjust so that your natural focus is better and a lot of people find that this eliminates the need for glasses.
now that's that works up until you're about 45 or 50 years old and the problem you have then and the reason older people need readers to read read is that your eyeball keeps growing inside of your skull just like your ears always keep growing in size no matter what your age. And as your eyeball gets bigger and bigger inside of your skull and eventually reaches the point where it's touching areas of your skull and this begins to deform the back of your eyeball and moves the retina out of place and the way it moves the right now to place means that you can no longer see things clearly that are up close so there's nothing you can really do when that reaches a certain point or degree to try to correct that. The only way you can really correct it is reading glasses or go to the doctor and get your cornea physically reshaped with something like lasix.
But for most of your life and specially in your youth you absolutely have to spend time outdoors and you have to have your eyes focusing on things that are close to you in the sunlight and far away from you in the sunlight. This is an old trick that Air Force pilots use to use when they would lose their their flight rating if their eyes got too bad when you were a fighter pilot. They would go to the beach for a long period of time before their eye test and make sure they stood outside and it's been a lot of time outside and they made their eyes focus on the horizon and focus close and focus on the horizon so their eyes would retune themselves.
This is why it's especially tragic to see parents putting sunglasses on their little kids eyes or seeing parents putting reading glasses on their 1-year-old or 2-year-old's eyes. It may fix the problem temporarily but it actually ends up making the problem much worse as their eyeball continues to grow in the wrong direction and even more out of focus cuz it's not getting the feedback that it needs to naturally correct itself.
