Let's put it this way, in Catholicism, anyone that goes to heaven is a saint. In Catholicism, being canonized as a saint means the Church is accepting without a doubt that you are in heaven.
Believe it or disbelieve it, whatever, that's not the point. The point is that the Church does not esteem every Pope to necessarily be destined for heaven. If you think about it, that's a pretty big statement to make. "Yeah, he was the lead bishop here on earth, leader and all, but we can't guarantee that he actually made it to heaven"
He's in a high office, but many of these popes are just one of us. A common man that struggles with vices, etc. No Catholic should be idolizing popes. And even praying to a canonized saint pope should be the equivalent of "hey big brother, can you pray with me to God ask for help for me see what I need to see"
