Had some diversity hire pooheads assisting in some of my CS classes. I liked to ask them to repeat themselves until they said a key word in English or they had to get the prof to say it in front of the entire class.

They can speak proper English, they just don't want to.

This!!! A couple people I know are originally from the Philippines. One came here in his teens, another one came in her twenties. Neither have accents. I have asked both how they don’t have accents and I got a comment similar to this. “I don’t want to have an accent. It’s cultural to keep an accent; you don’t have to keep your accent!”
