Not saying I will or wont. Just curious what the consensus is. I assume most don't want it. But 5 posts an hour is a pretty reasonable cap, maybe it's needed.

According to the poll results, 61.9% of people think there should be some kind of limit. 71.42% if you count "something else" with it. That's a pretty large margin. After sleeping on it and reading the comments, I'm still indifferent. Generally I am not a fan of limits and those against it seem more passionate/convincing than those who refuse to use the filtering options. I'll leave it be for now and continue to listen to the feedback.

There are many who post more than 10 posts , or even five an hour that submit quality content. Many of our Aussie goats, NY goats, FL goats, TX goats- etc go on caffeine (or other) fueled binges posting things. I’ve done it myself on occasion. I had to finally block mastersuppression because they were spamming the new section every time I made a post. For every 1 post I made, they had at least 7 or 8. I post on here regularly yet haven't been as active as I used to be due to users like MST.
I think it's more of a case per case scenario. Yes, there are spammers but also people that are posting good content so a hard limit seems unnecessary.
In any case, if a hard limit is announced then the spammers will just post limit -1 and create alts so not sure it will even help.

But at the same time if a user, for some reason, has a string of quality posts to share (perhaps they have limited time on Voat) then this shouldn't necessarily stop them, especially when it comes to well thought out and worthwhile content.

I voted no limiting only because it seems easy enough to ignore bulk (rapid-fire) spam posting and it may not good to discourage honest participation for the time-being. The 10post/24hrs would be my second choice.
Getting to this party late...if a limit is added, it should be something low like "every 60 seconds" so in theory the site couldn't be spammed by someone clicking a button or two and having a script do the work.

There already is a small limit already, like 10 seconds, which is increased for accounts with negative points. This would be easiest to implement. Just have to tweak the value.

If you're making more than 10 posts a day, you need to filter your posts for quality. Participate in some comment threads and get some interaction that way instead of spamming up all/new. Maybe consider making one post with multiple links if they're related. 5 per day seems a little too restrictive but 10 per day prevents the spammier accounts from taking over the entire new page while still giving normal users enough room to share a few things at a time.

Even including the two posts with double digit comments, the average number of comments per post on new is 3. Most actually have zero comments, so it's not like we're running of of comment space.

So system, Before I respond to this, I want to let you know that I am cross-posting between UPGOAT, SearchVaot, and GoatMatrix, asking users to create logins and become users at each of these Voat spin-off sites. The point is to create redundancy to ensure the Survivability of the original VOAT. From a users prospective, it would be useful to have this redundancy, and from an owners standpoint, you could post a service/maintenance window during the day, and advise users that the site would be down, and they could go to one of these sister sites. Obviously you just soft cap it. It you haven't made any threads in a long while you can post more than normal, but if you've been making the maximum amount of threads constantly your limit is reduced.
As an example, not actually suggesting these numbers. 5 per hour up to 10. 20 per day up to 30. 100 per weak up to 140. The lower time caps take into account the higher time post volume which adjusts the amount you're allowed to post.
This is made clear in the thread creation page so no one can ever get blindsided by it and think they are getting "shadowbanned".

Just make one simple rule that forbids using spamming bots. These bots post random junk without selection, often posting non secure links. This is the only problem. Spamming bots, not normal users that can be easily blocked.
If someone looks at a post, sees its negative / neutral / positive and chooses not to vote, that may be interpreted to say the status quo they observed was in line with what they felt it was worth.
Maybe it's a stretch but unique view count plus the state at the time of that initial view might itself represent a kind of vote.
If you have a few dozen users looking at a softly upvoted post amd accept the score without themselves adding a vote, that could be used to balance out downvote brigades (or the inverse of an unpopular post being boosted)

5 per hour up to 10. 20 per day up to 30. 100 per weak up to 140. The lower time caps take into account the higher time post volume which adjusts the amount you're allowed to post.
This is made clear in the thread creation page so no one can ever get blindsided by it and think they are getting "shadowbanned".
